19 fishermen returned on the Spirit of Adventure on Nov. 5. They caught a nice variety of fish such as tuna, yellowtail, wahoo, dorado, pargo and other species.

Jim Cornelius from San Diego was the jackpot winner with a 213 pound tuna. Bob Woodard from San Diego came in second with a 189 pounder and his friend Robb Lane took third place with a 169 pounder. The largest wahoo was caught by Bob Friedman of San Bernardino; it weighed 62 pounds.

The Spirit of Adventure returned from a 7-day trip with Byron Reidenbaugh’s Tuna Chasers on board. Bob Gott of San Diego (aka the mayor of Rosecrans) won first prize with a 56,25 pound White Sea Bass. Bill Orr of Newport won second and third place with a 54 pound Wahoo and a 53 pound White Sea Bass. Bill was on the Spirit the first time. His granddad obviously did a great job teaching him how to fish!

Mike Keating docked the Spirit of Adventure after an eight-day trip with Bruce Davis and his group.  They had an excellent catch that included the biggest tuna caught so far this surface fishing season, a 171-pound giant Yellowfin that ate the sardine baits of two anglers before they knew it.The fish was not eligible for the jackpot because it was caught by two anglers, Marvin Chew of Newbury Park and “Spyder”. Joe Skinner of San Diego won first place for a 55-pound wahoo he caught on 40-pound line. One of the tuna also weighed 55 pounds. Terry Draper of Westminster had the best yellowtail at 46.9 pounds.

The SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE returned from a 6-day trip on Sept. 13. The 20 anglers were fishing off shore on the way to Guadalupe Island and at Cedros and San Benitos Islands. Jack Bair of Huntington Beach got first place with a 48,3 lbs yellowtail. William Trujillo of Hesperia won second place with a 45 lbs mossback yellow and Ben Frazier came in third with a 42,7 lbs yellowtail.

The 23 anglers from Arizona mostly limited out on tuna on their 4-day trip from Aug. 27-31, 2011. The larger bluefin was in the 35 to 40 pound range. Charter master David Covert from Phoenix won first place with a 44,1 pound bluefin, followed closely by Matthew Campbell of Calgary with a 44 pound bluefin. Jeff Jackson of Chandler, won third place with a 43,4 pound bluefin.

The SPIRIT returned on Aug. 27 with 25 anglers from a 4-day Avet/Seeker sponsored trip. Two albacore took the first two spots.
Sandy Fishell of El Centro won first place with her 32.2 lb albacore, followed by charter master Ben Frazier with a 31 lbs albacore. Jacques Terblanche took third place with a 21,55 lbs yellowfin tuna.
